Student teachers engage in a service-learning project that allows them the opportunity to engage in an activity that serves their community. For this assignment, student teachers create and complete a community-based engagement  project, document the project showcasing learning outcomes, research, and create a poster which will be presented at the end of the semester. Students will be invited to present their research project at  the yearly IECE Child Development conference and at the College Research Showcase Day.

Community and Civic Engagement

The Office of Civic and Community Engagement seeks to promote the University of La Verne’s core value of community and civic engagement by development mutually beneficial and sustainable relationships between the university and community partners in order to collectively address the region’s most pertinent issues, bring theory to practice by connecting and involving our students with community-based service learning, promote engaged scholarship for our faculty, and support co-curricular civic and community engagement activities. The Child Development Center at Fairplex

The University of La Verne partners with the Fairplex Child Development Center (CDC) to foster intellectual, physical and emotional, education of children. Moreover, the Fairplex CDC partners with La Verne’s Child Development Programs equipping college students with real-world experience in their choses career paths.

The Child Development Advisory Committee

The Child Development Advisory Committee consists of faculty members and professionals in the early childhood field working together to enhance programs. The advisory committee is responsible for giving input into the quality of La Verne’s Child Development Program, making connections between community colleges, school districts, early childhood programs, service programs and the university.
