Students enrolled in the Single Subject Teaching Credential complete 33 units of credential coursework and 12 units of advanced coursework. For the advanced courses, students may select a concentration that is relevant to their professional goals.<\/p>\n

Outcomes<\/h2>\n

Employment for middle school and high school teachers is projected to grow 8 percent from 2016 to 2026, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many schools report having difficulty filling teaching positions for math, science, and English as a second language, creating high demand for educators in those subjects.<\/p>\n

This concentration is designed for students who seek a focus on current issues and methodologies in bilingual\/multilingual education. Because 2 core courses will be offered in Spanish, candidates who choose this pathway should be able to engage with course instruction delivered in Spanish.\u00a0 The concentration is practical in nature and focuses on action research.     Other Program Components<\/h3>

    Student Teaching Program Prerequisites<\/h4>

    All students must complete fieldwork hours in the state of California.\u00a0Student teaching candidates must complete an application and be accepted by the faculty into the student teaching sequence with the following:<\/p>

    • Introductory Supervised Teaching Requirements:<\/strong> \t
        \t\t
      • Certificate of Clearance or equivalent fingerprint clearance<\/li> \t\t
      • Demonstration of personal dispositions necessary for teaching (as outlined by the LaFetra College of Education)<\/li> \t\t
      • CPR for adults, infants and children<\/li> \t\t
      • Current TB clearance<\/li> \t\t
      • Verification of Basic Skills Competence as defined by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing<\/li> \t\t
      • Successful completion of all pre-student teaching coursework as defined by a GPA of 3.0 or better<\/li> \t\t
      • Speech course or verification<\/li> \t\t
      • US Constitution course or passing test score<\/li> \t\t
      • Health Education\/Nutrition\/Drug Prevention\/Tobacco\/Sexually Transmitted Diseases Course<\/li> \t\t
      • Verification of Subject Matter Competence as defined by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing<\/li> \t<\/ul> \t<\/li> \t
      • Advanced Supervised Teaching Requirements:<\/strong> \t

        • Successful completion of all requirements for Introductory Supervised Teaching<\/li> \t<\/ul> \t<\/li> <\/ul>

          Teacher Performance Assessments<\/h4>

          The California Teacher Assessment Program (TPA) provides teacher candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate achievement of the teaching performance expectations. The TPA consists of two tasks embedded within the student teaching experience.<\/p>\n

          Enhanced Intern Credential (Multiple\/Single Subject)<\/h4>

          Candidates\u00a0will be eligible for an enhanced intern credential if they have successfully maintained a 3.0 GPA, completed the constitution requirement, first term coursework (EDUC\u00a0425<\/span> Language and Literacy, Multiple Subject<\/span>\u00a0&\u00a0EDUC\u00a0426<\/span> Introductory Teaching Practices, Multiple Subject<\/span>;\u00a0EDUC\u00a0427<\/span> Language and Literacy, Single Subject<\/span>\u00a0&\u00a0EDUC\u00a0428<\/span> Introductory Teaching Practices, Single Subject<\/span>), basic skills requirement, subject matter competence, and have a contract in a public school. All candidates must be concurrently enrolled in EDUC 467A-467L\u00a0\u00a0or\u00a0EDUC\u00a0497<\/span> Introductory Supervised Teaching, Multiple Subject<\/span>\u00a0or\u00a0EDUC\u00a0497A<\/span> Introductory Supervised Teaching, Single Subject<\/span>\u00a0or\u00a0EDUC\u00a0498<\/span> Advanced Supervised Teaching<\/span> or EDUC\u00a0498A<\/span> Advanced Supervised Teaching, Single Subject<\/span> to be eligible for the intern credential.<\/p> \n

          Preliminary Credential Application Requirements<\/h4>

          To apply for a preliminary credential with the state of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, candidates must have:<\/p>

          • Maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better in all coursework<\/li> \t
          • Successfully completed clinical teaching requirements<\/li> \t
          • Received a B or better in EDUC\u00a0498<\/span> Advanced Supervised Teaching<\/span> or EDUC\u00a0498A<\/span> Advanced Supervised Teaching, Single Subject<\/span><\/li> \t
          • Completed a bachelor\u2019s degree from a regionally accredited college or university<\/li> \t
          • Completed an \u201cApplication for Credential\u201d<\/li> \t
          • Completed CPR Certification for Adults, Infants, and Children<\/li> \t
          • Passed all required TPAs<\/li> \t
          • Must be cleared by the credential analyst for all remaining requirements<\/li> \t
          • Submit a Development\/Induction Plan<\/li> <\/ul> \n

            Clear Credential Application Requirements<\/h4>

            To apply for a Clear Credential with the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, candidates must have completed a professional induction program through their employer within five years of the issuance date of their Preliminary Credential.<\/p>

            Dismissal from the Program:\u00a0 Candidates may be dismissed from the program under several circumstances, including but not limited to: academic dishonesty, academic disqualification, failure to maintain minimum academic standards, failure to maintain satisfactory academic progress, removal from a fieldwork placement, unethical or unprofessional conduct, failure of program activities measuring student competencies\/or dispositions, circumstance interfering with training or well-being of others, and\/or felony conviction.\u00a0 Candidates dismissed from the program may not apply for readmission.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
