Title 5 regulations require that an application for Certificate of Clearance be filed to determine whether or not a candidate meets the state standards for character and fitness to teach in California\u2019s public schools. A Certificate of Clearance is valid for five years.<\/p>\n<h2>To apply for a Certificate of Clearance, please follow these three steps:<\/h2>\n<p>Please note: this is a brief guide; for a complete step-by-step guide, please refer to the \u201c<a tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctc.ca.gov\/credentials\/apply-for-coc-ascc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Submit your Online Application<\/a>\u201d video and downloadable PDF on the CTC website.<\/p>\n<div class=\"collapsible-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"collapsible-header\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsible-content-1749232116421\">Step 1: Complete the Fingerprinting Process<\/h2>\n<div id=\"collapsible-content-1749232116421\" class=\"collapsible-content\">\n<ol>\n<li>Go to:\u00a0<a tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctc.ca.gov\/credentials\/fee-and-fingerprint\">www.ctc.ca.gov\/credentials\/fee-and-fingerprint<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Download the\u00a0<strong>41-LS<\/strong>\u00a0form from the table\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the Applicant Information Section and enter your SSN or ITIN number as the OCA number. The Applicant Submission section at the top should be automatically populated, and nothing else needs to be entered there and the Employer section at the bottom should also be left blank.<\/li>\n<li>Print 3 copies<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Take the 41-LS forms and your government-issued ID to an agency providing fingerprinting services.\n<ol>\n<li>For all California locations, see<span>\u00a0<\/span><a tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/fingerprints\/locations\">a list of Live Scan Locations<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Your fingerprints will be transmitted electronically to the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"collapsible-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"collapsible-header\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsible-content-1749232140307\">Step 2: Apply for a Certificate of Clearance<\/h2>\n<div id=\"collapsible-content-1749232140307\" class=\"collapsible-content\">\n<ol>\n<li>Go to:\u00a0<a tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctc.ca.gov\/credentials\/submit-online\">www.ctc.ca.gov\/credentials\/submit-online<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Click on\u00a0<strong>Submit Your Application Online<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Create\/log in to your profile on the secure Educator Page by entering your Social Security Number (SSN) and Date of Birth (DOB).\n<ol>\n<li>If this is your first time logging in to the CTC website, you will need to enter your SSN and DOB again\n<ol>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Create Person<\/strong>\u00a0and enter your information<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Save<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you have already created a profile, verify that your information is correct. Click on the\u00a0<strong>Edit<\/strong>\u00a0button if you need to make any changes to your profile.
