Steps to Becoming an Elementary School Teacher

• Complete a bachelor’s degree. The BSR/CBEST and BSR/CSET can now be satisfied by the successful completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• Complete Teaching Credential Program prerequisites as an undergraduate: public speaking, American Government, and Health Education.
• Complete a state-approved Teaching Credential Program, including Student Teaching.
• Pass the Teaching Performance Assessments and the Literacy Performance Assessment after completing the reading methodology courses in the Teaching Credential Program.
